Fusilier Dougald McCaughey

Dougald McCaughey was 23 years old and lived at home with his family in Glasgow.

He was another big personality within the Regiment, known for his jokes and playing pranks on his fellow soldiers.  His family remember him for the fun, caring, considerate and helpful young man that he was.

Dougald's younger Brother, David McCaughey, was also serving in the same Regiment.

He was due to go out with Dougald and his friends that day. He was tasked at the last minute with going on guard duty which would see him remain at camp, unknown to anyone, this last-minute change of plan saved his life.

Dougald was murdered by a single shot from a revolver.

He was the first to be shot that night.
